Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD  is an umbrella term for both Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema

Emphysema

Destruction of the walls and elastic fibres of the alveoli (air sacs in the lungs), causing small airways to collapse and impaired breathing out.

Chronic Bronchitis

Bronchial tubes become inflamed (swollen) and narrowed while producing more mucus

Symptoms of COPD

Chronic Cough

Sputum (Mucus) production

Breathlessness

Wheezing

Risk factors for COPD

Cigarette Smoking (current or ex-smokers)

Exposure to dust and chemicals

History of Asthma

Genetics / Family History
